On April 26, 2025, something beautiful happened at Balai Masyarakat, Taman Wawasan, Puchong. What began as a simple outreach plan turned into a heartfelt gathering of families, educators, and children with diverse needs. We called it Sensory Camp 2.0 — and though it only lasted a day, its impact will be remembered for much longer.
This event was made possible through the generous collaboration with YB Ng Sze Han, Ahli Dewan Negeri (ADN) Kinrara and Selangor EXCO of Investment, Trade & Mobility, who shares our belief that support for special needs families should extend beyond the walls of therapy centres. With his backing, HI 5 SEN brought our beloved Sensory Camp model right into the community — and opened doors to parents who may have never stepped into an intervention centre before.
🎪 A Safe Space for Exploration and Joy
The camp welcomed 15 families, each with their own story, their own fears, and their own hopes. Some came for answers. Some came for support. All left feeling more connected to their children, to each other, and to the community around them.
Throughout the day, children rotated through thoughtfully designed sensory-based activities that aligned with the same therapeutic goals we pursue every day at HI 5 SEN. But here, they came wrapped in laughter, colour, and the beautiful chaos of play.
Activities Included:
Messy Play & Sensory Bins – Great for tactile tolerance and creativity.
Obstacle Courses & Crawling Tunnels – To strengthen gross motor coordination and body awareness.
Oral Sensory Stations – For picky eaters or children sensitive to textures.
Fine Motor Activities – Strengthening finger and hand muscles through puzzles, threading, and play-dough fun.
Social Play Corners – Encouraging interaction, turn-taking, and teamwork.
Each station was supervised and facilitated by our own teachers, behavioural therapists, and occupational therapists, ensuring that behind every fun moment, a learning opportunity was quietly unfolding.
🧠 Why Sensory Regulation Matters
One of the most common struggles we see in neurodivergent children, especially those with autism, ADHD, and sensory processing disorder — is sensory dysregulation. When the world feels too loud, too bright, too fast, children react by shutting down, melting down, or acting out.
Our Sensory Camp is more than just fun and games — it’s a safe rehearsal space for self-regulation.
We had parents in awe when they saw how a bit of sensory integration work (in the form of crawling, spinning, or even deep pressure hugs) could help their children calm down, sit still, or even express themselves better. For many, it was the first time they saw their child truly engaged in an activity among peers.
💬 Parent Reactions That Touched Us
“I never knew my child could participate like this.”
“This is the first time I don’t feel judged as a parent.”
“I wish I had this kind of support earlier.”
Many of the parents who attended told us they had never joined a program like this before. Some only learned about sensory challenges during the camp. Some left with strategies they could use at home immediately.
And that’s exactly the point — Sensory Camp 2.0 was created to raise awareness, bridge understanding, and give families real tools they can use.
🌟 A Heartfelt Thank You
We extend our sincerest appreciation to YB Ng Sze Han and his team, who not only supported this initiative logistically, but also showed up in spirit. Their presence reminded families that they are seen — and that public leaders are listening.
We also thank our passionate HI 5 SEN team, who planned, packed, set up, and ran the event with endless energy and smiles. Your dedication to every child’s growth is what makes HI 5 SEN more than a centre — it’s a community.
📌 What’s Next?
With this successful outreach, we are more inspired than ever to bring our programs to more communities. Whether it’s through sensory camps, parent workshops, or school-readiness initiatives — we are committed to supporting every child, wherever they are.
